Turning Miles
into Impact
One runner, one mission, a nationwide movement.
Ashley Scheider, Founder of MS Run the US
A Mission in Motion. MS Run the US was founded in 2009 by Ashley Schneider (then Kumlien) in her bedroom at her parents’ home in Wisconsin. Motivated by her love of running and her mother’s battle with MS, Ashley dreamed of turning every step into a fight against the disease. Inspired by Jill Kumlien’s quiet strength, Ashley created MS Run the US as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to raise awareness, fund research, and support those living with MS.

3,288 Miles Across America. Ashley’s inaugural event was audacious: a solo 3,288-mile run across America to raise $500,000 for MS research. Running 24 miles a day, six days a week, for six months, she completed the journey in New York City on September 28, 2010. Despite raising just 10% of her original goal, Ashley returned with a relay team in 2013, launching the World’s Longest Annual Relay Run: 3,260 miles from Santa Monica to New York, with each runner completing six marathons in six days.
Turning Miles into Impact. The relay is more than miles. It’s about purpose, community, and making a difference for people living with MS. By 2014, the original $500,000 goal was surpassed, and to date, MS Run the US has raised over $4 million. Ashley continues to lead the organization, inspiring runners, supporters, and communities to join the mission and fuel every mile for MS.
